Negli ultimi mesi abbiamo spesso parlato di Nicholas Krgovich, il cantautore canadese di cui avevamo presentato i due nuovi singoli My Riverboat e Country Boy. Ora che è uscito il suo sesto album da solista, In An Open Field, ne abbiamo approfittato per parlare con lui della sua musica e dei suoi ascolti.
QUANTO TI SENTI HYPFI? CIOÈ, FAI MUSICA TRISTE MA SEI UNA PERSONE FELICE?
Direi piuttosto che sono una persona piena di speranza.
QUAL È LA CANZONE PIÙ TRISTE DEL TUO NUOVO ALBUM, IN AN OPEN FIELD? E PERCHÉ?
Forse Blue Wave. E’ quella che suona più allegra, ma se leggi il testo è decisamente crudo. E’ una specie di nichilismo zen, dove tutto è bello e allo stesso tempo futile, come in un luogo dove è difficile stare.
E QUAL È INVECE LA CANZONE PIÙ FELICE DELL’ALBUM?
Direi Parade. E’ triste come le altre, ma il ritornello ha un crescendo pieno di speranza. “It could be all for love / all the way to the top / it still can be that”: ho preso la frase “all for love” dal documentario This Is It su Michael Jackson. C’è un momento in cui lui sta parlando con il suo bassista e finisce per dire “all for love, all for love…”. Mio padre mi ha sempre detto che ama me, mio fratello e mia sorella “right to the top”. E’ da lì che ho preso ispirazione: due veri sentimenti a cui penso davvero spesso.
IN CHE MODO LA TUA MUSICA POTREBBE RENDERE FELICE CHI L’ASCOLTA?
A dire il vero mi trovo d’accordo con chi ascolta la mia musica a prescindere dalle sensazioni che vogliono provare con le mie canzoni.

WHAT IS THE SADDEST SONG IN YOUR NEW ALBUM, IN AN OPEN FIELD? AND WHY?
Maybe Blue Wave? It’s the cheeriest sounding one but if you read through the lyric sheet it’s pretty brutal. It’s kind of a zen nihilism. Where everything is fine and futile simultaneously. A difficult place to be.
WHAT IS THE HAPPIER SONG IN IN AN OPEN FIELD? AND WHY?
I would say Parade. It’s similarly dreary but the chorus has a hopeful uplift. “It could be all for love, all the way to the top, it still can be that”. I got the “all for love” from the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It. There’s a moment where he’s critiquing the bass player and ends with saying “all for love, all for love…” My dad has always said that he loves me and my brother and sister “right to the top”. That’s where I got that from. Two very true sentiments that I think about often.
WHY LISTENING TO YOUR MUSIC SHOULD MAKE A LISTENER HAPPIER?
I’m actually ok with the listener feeling however they want to feel while listening to my songs.
